In conversation with Joel Pinto on how to manage a balanced lifestyle

Why is it important to lead a mindful and all-good life in today’s times?

I believe mindfulness helps cultivate appreciation for the small things in our lives.  Appreciation and looking at life; a small win at a time can really help keep lifestyle related stresses at bay.

What are your workouts and how do you keep active with your fast-paced life?

I have been training since a little over 10 years now.

I have tried Krav Maga, Bodybuilding, Powerlifting and Cross-fit, my workouts are a mix of what I’ve picked up from these different disciplines. Setting a measurable goal keeps the training fun and motivating. For me, the goals have varied from squatting 5 plates each side, doing 100lbs dips, weighted pull ups, one hand push ups to doing handstands.3-4 Hours of  intentional exercise a week and the additional small steps of : take the stairs, walk more, park your car a little further, have an active weekend etc will get you there. Keeping active is not the difficult part in today’s fast paced life filled with FOMO, it’s the rest and recovery that has become a challenge.

What does your diet consist of?

It’s actually very simple, be mindful of what you are eating and what is required by the body.

Intermittent fasting helps me maintain my eating goals. Especially with frequent travel being a big part of my work life. Protein is a macro nutrient and a building block of bones, muscle and skin in the body. For those who work out protein it is important for muscle repair and recovery and hence I ensure I get my protein intake right.

Your thoughts on how to make workouts fun for someone who is getting into it?

A lot of people who start out having unrealistic expectations from the gym. One should follow a disciple they enjoy be it swimming, yoga or playing soccer on weekends. Also, having a workout buddy will keep you accountable, motivated and committed.
